Spafford is quickly becoming one of the jam scene’s most-buzzed-about names. The Arizona-based quartet—composed of Brian Moss (guitar/vocals), Jordan Fairless (bass/vocals), Andrew “Red” Johnson (keys/vocals), Cameron Laforest (drums/percussion/vocals)—has become known for their brilliant improvisation, genre-bending sound, and unparalleled and energetic live performances. Their musical tenacity has earned the group a rabid following nationwide, with Spafford witnessing a truly meteoric rise in popularity over the past year and a half.

Though Spafford first toured outside the Southwest at the tail end of 2016, since then, the group has transformed into a nationally touring powerhouse in 2017. Over the past year, Spafford consistently headlined and sold out venues across the country and performed high-profile gigs at high-profile festivals like Summercamp, Electric Forest, The Peach Music Festival, North Coast, and, most recently, Suwannee Hulaween. The group has also racked up an enviable list of special guest sit-ins over the past year, with Spafford’s collaboration with the Disco Biscuits’ Aron Magner at Hulaween on a cover of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World” gaining acclaim from both their fan base and beyond.

Spafford’s critically acclaimed release, Abaculus: An Improvisational Experience, was released in back in August and perfectly showcases why the band has become beloved by so many. With a focus on remaining true to their roots as an improvisation-based jam act, together, the group challenges themselves to push their limits and shed individual egos. In turn—as seen with Abaculus and their recent 53-minute live studio session jam for the Echo Sessions in Asheville, NC—Spafford offers inspired performances, both on stage and in the studio, that push the boundaries of modern jam music and that connects with fans nationwide.
